B3 Group Awarded $22 Million VA Clinical Decision Support Contract
Leesburg, VA, April 19, 2017 – B3 Group, Inc. has been awarded the Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Content and HL7-compliant Knowledge Artifacts (KNARTS) Development contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). B3 Group partnered with Cognitive Medical System and Motive Medical Intelligence for this contract win. The companies are tasked with helping the VA’s Office of Knowledge Based Systems (KBS) implement Clinical Decision Support (CDS) technology within electronic health records (EHRs).
The mission of KBS is to improve the ability of clinicians to provide care for patients while increasing quality, safety and efficiency. As part of this mission, KBS seeks to implement CDS within EHRs and VA health information systems. CDS provides clinicians, staff, patients and other individuals with knowledge and person-specific information, intelligently filtered and presented at appropriate times, to enhance health and health care. It encompasses a variety of tools and interventions, such as computerized alerts and reminders, clinical guidelines, order sets, patient data reports and dashboards, documentation templates, diagnostic templates, diagnostic support and clinical workflow tools.
“This contract will help move the VA and the entire healthcare community towards standardization of clinical content and interoperable systems, thereby reducing costs for payers and increasing healthcare outcomes for patients”, said Brad Palmer, founder and COO of B3 Group.
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has developed and fine-tuned a substantial amount of CDS within its EHR. However, as in many other healthcare organizations, the CDS currently implemented is in a non-standard, non-shareable format tightly dependent on specific legacy technology. Consequently, healthcare organizations are spending valuable resources to create the same or similar CDS that is used exclusively within their respective EHRs.
Cognitive Medical Systems is a specialist in standards-based Clinical Decision Support (CDS) software and healthcare IT infrastructure. Motive Medical Intelligence is a leading provider of evidence-based clinical workflows.
